1. Introduction
Excelsoft Technologies (referred to herein as “we” or “us” or “Excelsoft”) is a company providing digital learning and assessment products /services used worldwide by acclaimed educational publishers, universities/schools, licensing/awarding bodies, as well as government, defense, and corporate sectors.
Excelsoft is committed to ensuring that all users of its products/services have equal access. Excelsoft continues to offer its products/services in such a manner that individuals with disabilities can use it as easily as those without disabilities.

4. Accessibility Center of Excellence
Accessibility compliance is a key priority across all of Excelsoft’s products/services and this led to the development of an Accessibility Center of Excellence (ACOE) early on in the company’s trajectory. The team dedicated to this ACOE works solely on researching and developing internal accessibility strategies, tools and practices. They also assist all product/service teams to incorporate accessibility-related features and practices to keep up with the latest standards of compliance. In order to ensure the best experience for users of our platforms with disabilities, the Center of Excellence at Excelsoft has formed partnerships with local educational institutions for the specially-abled and enlists the help of students with disabilities to field test the accessibility friendliness of our products and services.
ACOE regularly conducts an accessibility awareness training program for all Excelsoft’s employees to reinforce the importance of accessibility.
5. Integrating Accessibility Practices during SDLC
The Accessibility testing is strongly embedded in our Software Development Test Cycle (SDLC). The team adopts accessibility best practices in the initial phases of the design and development – a “Shift-left” approach. Every bug fix, addition, or modification of features in the application software will be vetted for the accessibility compliance.
Best practices are followed and code reviews cover accessibility check lists along with coding and others standards.
Testing (dedicated accessibility test lab) is conducted for each build to ensure the issues are fixed before the release. Accessibility testing is also aligned with customer accessibility requirements.
All software changes, patches, and updates are followed by rigorous testing including regression testing for accessibility compliance before being deployed to production. This will ensure the testing is done as an integral part of the release process.
Our coders are knowledgeable and follow the specifications defined in WAI-ARIA 1.1 throughout the development lifecycle of the software application.
Excelsoft operates a dedicated accessibility test lab which uses automated tools and manual inspection processes by experienced accessibility testers to test user interfaces against WCAG 1.0/2.0/2.1 (A, AA), US ADA Section 508, BITV, Stanca Act, and ADA (Canada) accessibility standards. The team is adept at using the following tools and techniques to conduct accessibility testing:
- Automated Testing Tools (WAT, WAVE, Web Developer, Achecker)
- Screen Readers (JAWS, NVDA, Voiceover, Chromevox and Narator)
- Screen Magnifiers (ZoomText)
- Color Test (Color Contrast Analyzer)
- Keyboard-Only Testing
- Documents (MS Word, Excel, Power Point) – Inbuilt Accessibility Checkers
Excelsoft has developed an in-house accessibility testing platform – AccessTest. AccessTest makes it extremely simple and cost-effective to perform automated accessibility testing of both platforms and content. AccessTest combines best of open source, proprietary and home grown engines. AccessTest integrate into Continuous Integration (CI) DevOps processes for continuous accessibility scans during development.
6. Disclaimer
Excelsoft is committed to the Accessibility policy stated above. However, as the standards of accessibility are in continuous evolution, and our products/services are also evolving, there may slight lag in the implementation of the latest changes to the standards. Further, in situations where the feature/test/assessment requires measuring specific use of physical abilities including visual abilities not all assistive technologies would be supported. For example, in an assessment to measure extent of color blindness in an individual, it may defeat the core purpose of the assessment if supported by assistive technologies normally meant to support persons with disabilities. In such cases assistive technologies would not be supported.
